Trident Controlled Dosing
Neptune Systems does not recommend running this task until the Trident has been in operation for at least 7 to 10 days.
Establishing a Baseline Dose:
The first thing you will need to do before setting up Trident Controlled Dosing (TCD) is to know or set a Baseline Dosing amount for your tank. This baseline amount of additive is what is needed to keep your tank at the parameters both steady and in the range you desire for the ALK, Ca and Mg. This typically takes about 2–3 weeks to establish. Once you get the tank's parameters, where you want them, then you want to record how many mL is dosed into the tank within a 24hr period.
Set up the DOS independent of the Trident, you will set the DOS up to dose the amount of additive you want per day. For example, if your additive for your volume of water calls for 50 mL a day to be added to your tank. This would be a good place to start your programming with the DOS. (50 mL is used as an example, please refer to the additive you are using)
After you DOS begins to automatically dosing your additive, you will then start to watch the Trident Test Results. If you see the trends of the parameters drift up or down (refer to a trend over a few days, not just 1-2 tests). Then you can make small adjustments to the programmed amount of additive you are dosing to get the parameters back in the range you desire and holding steady. Do this slowly over a 24hr period so you do not shock the tank and sometime adjustments take time to reflect in the tank.
As you can see, this process can take a couple of weeks to dial in the baseline dosing amount for your tank. However, after you establish this baseline dosing amount, you are now ready to move on to the Trident Controlled Dosing (TCD) Task.
Setting up Trident Controlled Dosing (TCD)
In this task you will input your Baseline dose, Target Values (ALK, Ca, Mg), Trident test variance and baseline dose variance.
Trident Test Variance:
This is the allowed variance from the target value that the DOS will refer to when adjusting the dose.
Baseline does Variance
This is the amount the DOS can vary the dose from the Baseline dose.
For example:
Baseline: 50 mL
Target value for Ca is 400
Trident test variance is 40
Baseline variance is 35%
The DOS will not adjust the amount dosed from the baseline if the Trident Ca test reads below 360 and above 440. This is to prevent the DOS from wildly dosing the tank if Trident has a bad test or a malfunction. If the test is at the top end (440) DOS will change the dose amount by decreasing the dosing by 35% of the baseline dose or 17.5 mL.
Over time, as you add Coral or your Corals grow, you may need to adjust this baseline accordingly.
